How Smart Home Batteries Redefine the Profitability of Solar Panels in France

The drop in the rates for buying back solar electricity is changing the game for households. Now, storing the energy produced at home becomes the optimal strategy to reduce annual bills without relying on the conventional power grid.

The withdrawal of financial incentives pushes homeowners to consume their own electricity directly

For a long time, selling excess electricity back to the grid guaranteed a steady income for households equipped with panels. However, the sharp decline in buyback tariffs and the elimination of the dedicated premium have completely reshaped this financial logic.

Now, individuals prefer to use the energy on site rather than inject a portion back into the national grid. Consequently, solar installations paired with batteries are on the rise, as they allow preserving every kilowatt-hour produced.

According to Enedis, new storage-equipped installations rose by nearly 167% between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025. Even though these systems currently account for 8% of the fleet, their growth is the fastest in the sector.

Plug-and-play batteries make solar storage feasible without complex installation work

The rise of storage is notably driven by the availability of more accessible equipment, such as Zendure products. These low-voltage devices plug directly into a standard electrical outlet without requiring an electrician.

This simplified approach avoids the installation of heavy inverters and eliminates costly technical interventions. As a result, tenants as well as owners of small spaces can easily access solutions that were once reserved for larger homes.

Artificial intelligence optimizes charging cycles according to fluctuations in electricity tariffs

To boost financial gains, manufacturers are now integrating smart software into their equipment. The ZEN+ HOME ecosystem employs the ZENKI AI agent and the ZenPulse model to continually study solar production and household consumption.

The PowerHub unit centralizes the control of the home network, charging stations, and heat pumps. With this tool, the system anticipates needs across an entire day to trigger the most economical charging cycles.

In early August 2026, a partnership with the French supplier Sobry was announced. Users benefit from variable rates and can recharge their battery at the cheapest moment, enabling up to 625 euros of annual savings for an 8 kWh battery.

Global energy management brings together heating, mobility and home production

The overarching goal goes beyond simply managing the home’s solar network. With modular ranges up to 50 kWh such as SolarFlow Mix, EVFlow AC charging stations, and a cargo bike with a solar canopy, energy management encompasses private mobility.

All these interconnected features aim to centralize the control of all daily electrical usages. This unified vision of the home will be showcased at the IFA 2026 trade fair in Berlin, scheduled from September 4 to 8.
