IFA welcomes call for labelling of all meats IFA President John Bryan has welcomed the call by the French and German Agriculture Ministers for stricter labelling on all meats. He said as President of the Agriculture Council, the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney must press ahead with this initiative at Mondays meeting of the Farm Council.
John Bryan said, Compulsory labelling is long overdue and is something that farmers have repeatedly sought. I will be travelling to Brussels on Monday, and expect Ministers to take strong action and commit to compulsory labelling of meats in all retail and food service outlets, including in restaurants and hotels.
The IFA President re-iterated his view that the full rigours of the law should be brought to bear on anybody who fraudulently mislabels meat, as the high reputation of Irish beef cannot be compromised.
