Castlerea Mart Market Report Re sale 05/05/20

Over 700 animals presented for sale on Thursday last with trade and prices holding up extremely well as we enter the first week of May.

The heifer ring reported a good clearance with lots making up to €1890  while the lighter stores were in demand this week aided by improved grass growth. The weanling rings witnessed the bulls peak at €3.66 a kilo while the heifer weanlings peaked at €3.66 a kilo with increased farmer activity this week as the deadline for form filling approaches. The dry cow trade has remained firm this week with prices peaking at €2560 or €3.08 a kilo. Breeding stock witnessed cows with calves at foot reach €2300 and springers made up to €1530. The calf numbers are holding up well with a good clearance taking place. Lots made up to €460 with an average of €135 paid.
