Castlerea Mart Market Report Re Sale 28/4/22 

800 animals presented for sale on Thursday last.  The Heifer ring reported a very strong trade with increased numbers on offer.  Many of the lighter quality stores exceeded €3 per kilo, where the heavier forward lots made up to €2240 or €3.43 per kilo.  

The Dry Cow trade remains firm with prices topping out at €2870 or €2.94 per kilo.  The weanling rings attracted a lot of farmer interest this week as the bull weanlings topped out at €4.21 per kilo, and the heifer weanlings peaked at €3.57 per kilo.  Breeding stock made up to €2240 for a Lim cow and her Bull calf at foot, while the springers made up to €1390.  The calf trade reported a good clearance with prices relative to the quality on offer.
