Balla Mart Report....
The sale was held in Balla today the 9 th numbers are staying high for the time of
year with over 600 lots on offer. Stores are holding price well while heavy stock
have dropped back a little reflecting the price pressure from the factories. But
today the cattle with power to them were not there. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg
averaged 2.43p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.65 p/kg...While
heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged 2.66p/kg. A farmer from Ballinafad - Belcarra
had a LMX bullock weighing 785kg that made E2,140.00 or 2.73p/kg while a
lighter store weighing 425kg made E1,470.00 or 3.46p/kg. from a Midfield -
Swinford farmer.
Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.64 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged
E2.60p/kg. Heavy heifers 500+ were 2.76p/kg. There was a Lim weighing 815kg
that made E2,350.00 or 2.88 p/kg sold by a farmer from Ross – Castlebar and
another lighter 555kg BBX that made E1,870.00 or 3.37p/kg sold by a farmer
from Cummer – Tuam.
The third ring was in operation as usual for the cows and numbers remain big. An
AAX dry cow 835kg born June ’18 made E2.350.00 or 2.81p/kg from a farmer in
Knockmore – Ballina and another CH 740kg made 2,150.00 or 2.91p/kg. In the
springers the best a LMX cow born Feb ‘18 with its heifer calf at foot that made
E2,440.00. There was a smaller show of bull weanlings. Bull weanlings 200kg to
350kg averaged 2.69p/kg. Bull Weanlings 350kg to 450kg made 2.60p/kg. The
