Balla Mart Report....
The sale was held in Balla today the 18 th a big sale that was unprecedented for mid
June. With trade for forward stores and beef cattle holding up well. Bullocks
300kg to 400kg averaged 2.80p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.68
p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged 2.79p/kg. A farmer from
Bushfield - Hollymount had a AAX bullock born Mar ’20 weighing 785kg that
made E2,340.00 while a 620kg LMX made E1,900.00 or 3.06p/kg. from a
Dunmore - Galway farmer.
In the heifers this week there was some good quality lots that met with a good
clearance. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.85 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg
averaged E2.72p/kg. Heavy heifers 500+ were 2.90p/kg. There was a Char 650kg
that made E2,070.00 or 3.18 p/kg sold by a farmer from Knappagh – Westport and
another 595kg LMX that made E1,870.00 or 3.14p/kg sold by a farmer from
Liskillen – Ballinrobe.
The third ring was in operation for the cows and as usual numbers remain very
high in the dry cows and they are holding their own. A Char dry cow 870kg born
Jan ’14 made E2,670.00 or 3.07p/kg from a farmer in Ballykilleen – Ballyhaunis
and another LMX 760kg that made 2,450.00 or 3.22p/kg. In the springers the best
a very genuine gentle AAX cow born Apr ‘16 with its two little BBX bull calfs at
foot that made E2,700.00 sold by a farmer from Aughagower - Westport. There
was a smaller show of bull weanlings. Bull weanlings 200kg to 350kg averaged
2.88p/kg. Bull Weanlings 350kg to 450kg made 2.72p/kg. And bull weanlings
450kg+ made 2.60p/kg. The End of Month Continental sale will be next Saturday
