Balla Mart Report....
The End of Month Continental sale was held in Balla today the 28 th of May with just
over 700 lots on offer. Cattle has got very dear and appear to be getting dearer
every week and cow prices described as ‘Unreal’. There was a fine trade for
quality beef cattle both heifers and bullocks which did exceedingly well with
online factory and northern buyers pushing things along and all averages nearly
reached the 3:00 p/kg and tops reaching a new height of 3.84+p/kg. Bullocks
300kg to 400kg were improved and averaged 2.98p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to
500kg averaged 2.96 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + exceeded the 3p/k
and averaged 3.02p/kg with the tops making over the 3.80p/kg. A farmer from
Bonniconlon - Ballina had a CHX bullock born April ’20 weighing 745kg that
made E2,460.00 or 3.30p/kg with the weight and another 635kg char made
E2,440.00 or 3.84p/kg. from a Barnalyra – Charlestown farmer.
In the heifers this week there was nearly 300 lots on offer. There was some good
quality store animals that met with a good clearance. Heifers up to 400 kg
averaged 2.96 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged E3.00p/kg. Heavy
heifers were up and at a new high of 3.13p/kg. There was a Lim 585kg for
breeding that made E2,600.00 or 4.44 p/kg sold by a farmer from Derryfad –
Claremorris and another 625kg CHX that made E2,130.00 or 3.41p/kg sold by a
farmer from Bohola – Swinford.
The third ring was in operation for the cows and as usual cow numbers remain
big in the dry cows with 130 on offer. Dry cow prices were up due to the presence
of some Northern Ireland and online buyers. A Char dry cow 760kg born Mar ’13
made E2,580.00 or 3.39p/kg from a farmer from Straide – Foxford and another
BBX 885kg that made 2,610.00 or 2.95p/kg. In the springers the best a 815kg chx
cow born May ‘18 with its heifer calf at foot that made E2,640.00 or 3.24 p/kg.
Bull weanlings 200kg to 350kg averaged 2.91p/kg. Bull Weanlings 350kg to
450kg made 2.89p/kg. And bull weanlings 450kg+ made 2.89p/kg. There will be
