Balla Mart Report....

The sale was held in Balla today the 23^rd of April with over 900 lots on offer. There was a great trade and some quality beef cattle. Heavy bullocks and cows ‘wild’ according to some buyers with online factory and northern buyers pushing things on making them dearer. There was a smashing clearance in the bullocks with heavy bullocks remaining as pricy as ever. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.83p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.69 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged an incredible 2.83 p/kg with the tops making over the 3.10p/kg.  A farmer from Balla had a Lim bullock weighing 840kg that made E2,630.00 or 3.13p/kg with the weight and another 785kg made E2,580.00 or 3.29p/kg. from the sale farmer who has some smashing cattle.
In the heifers this week there was nearly 400 lots on offer. There was some nice quality store animals that met with good clearence and were ‘High Dough’. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.76 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg were actually up and averaged E2.74p/kg. While 500kg averaged 2.85p/kg. There was a 765kg born Apr ’20 that made E2,460.00 or 3.22p/kg from a farmer from Balla – Castlebar and another 700kg SIX that made E2,220.00 or 3.17p/kg.

The third ring was in operation for the cows this Saturday with 130 dry cows and 39 sucklers. Dry cow prices were up due to the presence of some Northern Ireland online buyers. A Char 815kg  born Oct ’16 made E2,600.00 or 3.19p/kg following fierce bidding around the ring and online from a farmer from  Liscarney - Westport.  In the springers the best a CH 740kg springer with its bull calf at foot that made E2,040.00 sold by a farmer from Carrabeg Ayle - Westport.

There was some weanlings this Saturday but there will be a special weanling sale on Tuesday evening the 3^rd of May with booking for this on Thursday the 28^th from 09:30am to 01:00pm on 0818301401..And next Saturday the 30^th will be the end of month continental sale with booking this Wednesday the 27^th.
