Tragic Farm Death in Cavan

Posted on: 15/07/2013

Almost half of all workplace deaths are farm related. In this busy season it is not harm that we all reflect on safety on the farm, following the weekend where a Mountnugent farmer lost his life. The Health and Safety Authority are asking 3000 farmers to take part in their farm safety survey. ( www.hsa.ie.)
Sadly we record the tragic farm accident in which Mountnugent Farmer, Patrick Bradley lost his life. He had been working with bales and having failed to return home his body was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning last.
The fatality rate in agriculture is far higher than any other economic sector. A large proportion of all fatal workplace accidents occur in agriculture, even though a small proportion of the workforce is employed in farming. The level of farm accidents is not decreasing. Similar accidents occur each year. Research indicates that, in general, farmers attitudes to safety only change after serious injury occurs. You matter. You owe it to your loved ones to ensure you do your best to put health and safety first on the farm.
