DUBLIN�S ONLY AGRICULTURAL SHOW RETURNS FOR SECOND YEAR

Livestock Competition Now Open for Entries, with Judging in Breeding Classes of Cattle, Sheep and Poultry

Dublin, Thursday July 25th, 2013; Flavours of Fingal County Show 2013, a unique agricultural and family event taking place in Donabate, Co. Dublin this September, has officially launched its annual livestock competitions today. Competitors are encouraged to submit their entries by August 30th 2013.



The Flavours of Fingal County Show is the first event of its kind in Dublin and promises to be an un-missable experience celebrating Irish breeding and locally produced food from renowned Irish producers.



The two day event takes place at Newbridge House and Farm, Donabate, Co. Dublin on Saturday the 14th September and Sunday the 15th of September. The Flavours of Fingal County Show promotes and showcases all breeds and disciplines of livestock. The cattle breeding competitions will this year welcome Aberdeen Angus, Hereford, Simmental, Belgian Blue, Limousin, Shorthorn, Holstein Fresian and will also include a commercial cattle section.



For the sheep competition, judges will consider livestock from the Suffolk, Vendeen, Texan, Charolais, Jacob and Belclare breeds. A selection of poultry classes will also feature at this year�s event.





The Flavours of Fingal County Show 2013 is a two day family event catering to the rich agricultural and horticultural heritage of the Fingal area. As well as livestock competitions and agricultural displays, food enthusiasts will be spoilt with an extensive food village offering samples from local producers including fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, dairy and coffees. Country Crest, Keelings, Keoghsare amongst the top food producers exhibiting at the event.



Peter Counihan, Fingal Farmers said, �We are very much looking forward to even a bigger and better competition element to the Flavours of Fingal County Show this year. The standard of entries last year was very high leaving us with high expectations for the competitors at this year�s county show. With only a month way to the final deadline for entries, we encourage everyone to get their entries in as soon as they can to guarantee their spot at what promises to be a highly competitive show.�



According to William Smyth, the overall winner of the cattle breeding competition at last year�s event; �'The Flavours of Fingal County Show was well organised and well attended. The event is an ideal day out in what is a stunning setting. We truly enjoyed the day and hope to see everyone again this year�.

  • 07/08/2013 - 81 year old farmer gored by bull
    An 81 year old farmer is in hospital with severe injuries after being gored by a bull in his family farm in west Cork. Noel Moxley was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where his injuries are described as severe but stable.
  • 02/08/2013 - Farming Accidents highest in August
    August ranks as a high risk month for accidents, with about 9% of farm deaths occurring during this month. In August, farm work is marked by considerable tractor and vehicle use associated with grass and crop harvesting. Children are off school and may have access to the farmyard. As the month goes on light levels decline, adding to the hazards. This all adds to the challenge to manage safety on farms in August. Teagasc health and safety officer John McNamara is urging all farmers to be vigilant about farm safety this month.
