News » Major investment in Offaly Farmers Calving Sensor

19/05/2014

Irish farm tech startup Moocall is about to receive a €750,000 investment round backed by high-profile investors Michael Smurfit and Michael Stanley to change the way farm life works.

A participant start-up on AIT’s Enterprise Programme (now New Frontiers) in 2011, Moocall has developed a patented calving alert sensor that sends a text message to a farmer’s mobile phone to signal that a calf is close to being born.  Led by Offaly-based Niall Austin, Moocall collaborated with AIT’s Software Research Institute to develop its sensor management system and with AIT’s Centre for Industrial Services & Design to design and prototype the product’s enclosure unit, both supported by Enterprise Ireland Innovation Vouchers.  An MBS group undertook an Applied Corporate Strategy project with Moocall.  The product is currently being trialled by 20 farmers in Tipperary and will launch this summer.
