It turned out that the area hosted populations noticeably larger than those in the nearby Drevlianskyi nature reserve and surrounding unprotected zones, and it also stood out for the presence of rare species, such as Przewalski\u2019s horses, lynxes, moose, red deer, raccoon dogs, and brown bears.<\/p>\n<section class=\"incontent-related\"><span class=\"incontent-related__title\">Read also<\/span> <span class=\"incontent-related__desc\">For the first time, a great white shark has been filmed on the seabed of the Mediterranean<\/span><\/section>\n<p>Contrary to what the team expected, higher occurrences of more common species, such as red foxes, renowned for their remarkable adaptability, were not evident, suggesting they are less affected by human activities.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Just submitted our latest paper on @NERCscience #Chornobyl wildlife camera trap work \u2013 this one in on wildlife in the Red Forest over the year following an extensive #wildfire which impacted the site in 2016. Once declared extinct in the wild by the late 1960s, they were reintroduced in parts of Ukraine in the late 1990s. In total, more than a thousand photographs of these equids have been taken in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone since 2016.
