Tullow mart report Tuesday 10^th March 2020.

 

A large sale in Tullow with over 1200 sheep on offer meeting with a steady trade as we have seen for the last fortnight. The heavy hgts today up to €142 with the majority between €137 and €140 for hgts over 50kg well fleshed. Hgts from 45kg to 50kg fleshed hgts from €127 up to €135 with some more store type hgts in that weight bracket selling from €120 upwards. We also saw a very lively trade around the ring from feeders and farmers for the lighter store hgts 30kg selling from €88 up to €93 and €94 with the mid 30kg’s breaking the €100 and up to €110 in instances with the store hgts 40kg to 45kg selling from €108 to €120 depending on quality, type and presentation.

Cast ewes a very lively trade the heavy ewes out to a tops of €162 and lots of ewes north of €140 for the heavier fleshed ewe with the store feeding type ewes selling anything from €30 to €35 with the kg and a very brisk trade for those 70kg to 90kg ewes.

We had a dispersal sale today of in lamb ewes 2, 3 &4 yr olds full and broken mouth carrying 1.8 lambs selling from €150 up to €175 with an entry of ewe hgts carrying a lamb and a half selling from €150 up to €175 also. Ewes with lambs at foot a very lively trade and lots on offer ewes with singles selling from €140 to €180 with a lamb and half at foot breaking the €200 mark with good young ewes with twins out to a tops of €250 and a very lively trade for those young ewes with lambs 2 to 3 weeks of age.

Overall a very lively trade with trade holding steady for the hgts and lots of interest from farmers for the breeding sheep.

Just to remind everyone that next week we have our sheep sale on Monday 16^th March starting at 2pm with gates opening for sheep intake from 12 noon due to St. Patricks Day on Tuesday.
