Tullow mart report Tuesday 3^rd March 2020

 

With over 1200 sheep on offer today in Tullow the trade remained positive however possibly easier by €2 to €3 for the heavier type hgts. The well presented clean tidy fleshed hgts over 50kg sold to a tops today of €143 but the majority between €135 and €140 while we saw plenty of farmer custom around the ring for the store hgts the lightest 30kg sold into the mid €90’s with the 35kg to 40kg selling from €105 up to €120 depending on type and presentation with some of the high 40kg selling into €125 to €130. A couple of well presented pens 48kg making €133 and €134. Cast ewes really setting the trade here a blazing trade with the heaviest ewes out to a tops the price of the day 110kg making €160 with plenty of heavy ewes north of €140 per head with the store ewes making anything from €30 with the kg and a very strong demand for those 65kg to 80kg ewes for feeding. In lamb ewes possibly a little easier today but then later lambing and we saw a lot of custom around the ring for these types of ewes selling from €155 to €170 and averaging about €165 and a full clearance. Aged ewes with lambs at foot with singles sold from €150 up to €195 for ewes with single lambs with younger ewes with twin lambs all out to a tops of €245 and a lot of farmer custom around the ring for ewes and lambs. Trade really not to be missed if you have ewes and lambs to sell.

 

Overall a positive trade yet possibly easier by €2 to €3 for heavier type sheep but great to see the trade holding firm as we move into the spring.

 

Next week Tuesday 10^th March we have 120 in lamb ewes for sale at approximately 12 noon lambing from the end of March onwards.
