04/01/2019 - Tullow Cattle Mart Report
The first cattle sale of 2019 held in Tullow Mart on Friday 4th January opened to a trade of uncertainty around the ring with prices struggling to hold what we would have seen before Christmas.
Firstly to the cul cows the FR type cows sold anything form €120 under the kg up to a tops of €350 with the kg with the good continental heavy fleshed cows still making the best trade of all. One cow 965kg making €1640 with the majority of those continental cows feeding types selling anything from €250 to €450 with the kg.
In the bullock and heifer ring we saw the good forward type stores 525kg making €1090 with some heavier type bks 615kg making €1350 so a trade resembling anything from €2 up to €2.20 per kg for those continental bks. While we saw a similar trade for the heifers the lighter store type cattle those lighter bks 350kg to 430kg approx selling from €1.85 for the HE and AA up to €2.15 per kg for the continental types and a similar price seen for the heifers except a little less on the HE and AA side for the heifers.
Just to remind everyone we have our weekly cattle sales every Friday at 11am and calves in Ring 2 at 11:30 am.
Our Male Fat Stock Show & Sale is on Friday 25th January 2019 and the Female Fat Stock Show & Sale is on Friday 1st February 2019.
