06/09/2021 - Tuam Cattle Mart Report

Tuam Mart's Cattle Sale Monday the 6th of September presented both a lively and desirable trade. The maneuver by factories pulling the price this week did not appear to hinder trade with premium prices paid for both quality store and beef cattle with a brisk ringside and online activity from buyers. A noticeable lift in prices for heifers and bullocks was evident when compared to last week's sale.  

 

Similar to last week, exceptional cow trade was presented at this week's sale. Prices surpassed €2000/head. Sample prices include €1780 (€2.42/kg) for a 735 kg LMX cow by a Barnaderg farmer. A 730 kg CHX by a Tuam farmer made €1650 (€2.26/kg) while a 720 kg LM cow by a Tuam farmer made €1790 (€2.20/kg). A cow weighing 925 kg by a Bushypark farmer made €2040 (€2.21/kg). Cows averaged at €2.05/kg. 

 

Tremendous heifer trade was presented with storesmaking in excess of €2.86/kg and beef cattle surpassed the €2.50/kg mark. There was strong demand for lighter flashy continental heifers types by farmers. Sample prices include:

 

A LMX weighing 375kg by a Lavally farmer making €1040 (€2.77/kg)

A LMX weighing 395kg by a Dunmore farmer making €1080 (€2.73/kg)

A CHX pair of 330kg heifers by a Lavally farmer making €880 (€2.67/kg)

A 455 kg SIX by a Belclare farmer making €1170 (€2.57/kg)

A 440 kg LM by a Dunmore farmer made €1170 (€2.66/kg)

A 405 kg LM by a Lavally farmer made €1160 (€2.86/kg)

A 520 kg BBX by an Abbeyknockmoy farmer made €1430 (€2.75/kg)

A 555 kg LMX by a Barnaderg farmer made €1360 (€2.45/kg) while heavier heifers including a 660 kg CHX by a Tuam farmer made €1660 (€2.52/kg)

 

Bullock trade was met with fantastic trade with buyers anxious to secure forward beef store cattle. Sample prices include

A 370 kg LMX by a Mountbellew farmer made €970 (€2.62/kg)

A 375 kg SIX by a Bushypark farmer made €1020 (€2.72/kg)

A 390 kg LMX by a Dunmore farmer made €1180 (€3.03/kg)

A 455 kg LMX by a Milltown farmer made €1200 (€2.64/kg)

A 495 kg CHX by a Lavally farmer made €1380 (€2.79/kg)

A 675 kg LMX by a Tuam farmer made €1770 (€2.62/kg)

A 715 kg SIX by a Tuam farmer made €1780 (€2.49/kg)

A 750 kg LMX by a Tuam farmer made €1850 (€2.47/kg)

 

Tuam Mart's first weekly evening weanling sale commenced this week with the Belgian Blue and Simmental Show and Sale. A relatively small number of wenalings were on offer but trade was met with a lively demand from both farmers, shippers and northern buyers. Congratulations to our prize winners which include Seamus and Sean Hession from Gortbeg winning the Belgian Blue Heifer class, Jackie Walsh from Shrule winning the Belgian Blue Bull class and to Michael Keavney from Glenamaddy winning both the Weanling Bull and Heifer classes. A 400 kg BBX by a Tuam farmer made €1200 (€3.00/kg)

A 240 kg SI by a Glenamaddy farmer made €780 (€3.25)

A 365 kg BBX by a Shrule farmer made €1150 (€3.15/kg)

A 435 kg CHX by a Craughwell farmer made €1240 (€2.85/kg)

A 455 kg BBX by a Tuam farmer made €1275 (€2.80/kg)

 

 

Next Monday our general sale takes place at 11 a.m. and our Limousin Weanling Show and Sale takes place at 6 p.m. in ring 1.

 

Tuam Mart's Sheep Sale Tuesday the 31st of August saw close to 200 sheep on offer. A large range of both factory and store lambs were presented for sale to meet the demand. Store Lambs remains strong trade with sample prices including:

32.5 kg lambs by a Tuam farmer making €100 - €3.08/kg

37.5 kg labs by a Currandulla farmer made €107 - €2.85/kg

36.5 kg lambs by a Currandulla farmer made €102 - €2.79/kg 

Meanwhile,

40 kg lambs by a Tuam farmer made €110 - €2.75/kg

42 kg lambs by a Ballinasloe farmer made €115 - €2.74/kg

44 kg lambs by a Ballinrobe farmer made €120 - €2.73/kg

46 kg lambs b y a Belclare farmer made €125 - €2.72/kg

A super pen of butchers lambs by a  Tuam farmer made €142 - €2.73

 

Lively trade was also presented for ewe lambs with 42 kg ewe lambs by a Ballinasloe farmer made €149 - €3.51/kg.

45.6 kg farmers by a Shrule farmer made €150 - €3.29

Ewe lambs weighing 48 kg made €150 - €3.13/kg.

 

Less hoggets were on offer but demand remained very strong with a Kilmaine farmer achieving the top price of €246. Other prices include €240 paid for Hoggets by a Tuam farmer and €220 for Hoggets by a Curranadulla farmer.

 

A good selection of Breeding Ewes were on offer with prices ranging from €130 to €188. With the top price going to a Tuam farmer for 2nd crop ewes. 

 

A large selection of heavy ewes were presented for sale and price for these ranged from €160 to €190.

 

On Friday the 10th of September Tuam Mart will host the Mule Lanark Sale for ewe lambs and hoggets for the second year running commencing at 5 p.m. Live on MartBids in Ring 1. The West Region Texel Club Ram Sale will take place on Tuesday the 21st of September and the Belclare Sheep Society Ewe Lamb and Hogget Sale will take place Friday the 24th of September at 6:30 p.m. General Sheep Sale every Tuesday from 4:30 p.m
