MARKETHILL LIVESTOCK & FARM SALES LTD – SHEEP SALE – 13 TH JANUARY 2021

An entry of 1650 sheep in Markethill on Wednesday 13 th January sold in probably the best ever trade seen at the
mart.
Fat hoggets returned an exceptionally strong demand with good quality heavy hoggets selling from 500p – 538p/k
paid for 24k at £129 from a Portadown farmer, followed by 533p/k for 24.4k at £130 each. The entire entry of 690
heavy hoggets averaged 25.8k at £129.20 each, 501p/k. A total of 28 pens sold in excess of £130 each to a top of
£135 each.
Good quality midweight hoggets sold from 530 – 577p/k for 22k at £127 from a Cullyhanna farmer, followed by
568p/k for 22.7k at £129 from a Rathfriland producer. The entire entry of 450 midweight hoggets averaged 22.2k at
£119.50 each 538p/k.
Good quality store lambs from 500 -588p/k for 17k at £100 from a Cullyhanna farmer, followed by 553p/k for 15k at
£83 from a Hilltown farmer.
The 180 cull ewes sold to a top of £174. Main demand for fleshed ewes from £110 to £153, with poor quality ewes
from £70 to £100 each.
A special entry of 70 ewes with lambs at foot from a Portadown farmer returned a very strong trade with doubles
selling to £360, £350 and £345 with a total of 25 outfits selling in excess of £300 each and a further 18 outfits selling
from £250 to £295 each.
