Castlerea Co-Operative Livestock Mart Ltd. Market report re sale 15/07/21

500 cattle presented for sale this week and trade and prices are holding well with some very fancy prices paid for the quality lots on offer. The bullock ring saw a large entry with prices peaking at €3.26 a kilo while the heavier lots made up to €1950 and with strong farmer buying agents and Northern demand a good clearance took place. The heifer ring had a similar tone and the lighter quality store heifer in particular was much sought after. The dry cow trade and breeding stock remain in strong demand with the dry cows peaking at €2.57 a kilo while the cows with calves at foot made up to €1750. Lesser numbers of suck calves on offer but a good clearance took place. While the weanling rings saw the heifer weanlings fetch up to €3.27 a kilo with the bulls making up to €2.97 a kilo.
