Balla Mart Report....
On Saturday the 27th of June the end of month sale was held in Balla with just
over 500 cattle, The store cattle especially in the heifers were a mighty trade with
a lot of cattle going north. Everyone’s cooperation is appreciated with the new
operating procedures. A good trade was remarked by all especially the
continental stores and with a lot of bidders online as well as those around the
ring. There was great interest in the Farmers Journal APK ‘MartBids” which
streamed the sale and it was busy all morning registering people on the APK.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.28p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg
averaged 2.17 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged E1.95 p/kg. the
best there a 760kg SIX @ E1,510.00 or 1.99 p/kg sold by a farmer from Turlough –
A nice sale of heifers with just over 250 booked which was sold in the third ring. It
was a very good trade with lots of online bids. Heifers up to 400 kg were up and
averaged 2.37 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged E2.21p/kg with the
weight. While 500kg+ averaging 2.10p/kg.. the best a PTX heifer for
breedingweighing 510kg sold by a farmer from Milltown - Galway at E1,560.00 or
3.06 p/kg.There was nearly a 100 cows on offer and they averaged 1.57 p/kg….the
best a BBX dry cow sold by a farmer from Laface – Ballindine 860kg @ E1,520.00.
There was an 8 yr old LMX cow with its Lim bull calf at foot that made E1,660.00.
In the bull weanlings there was a lot of light stock that averaged from 1.90 to 2.58
p/kg…the best a 290kg char bull sold by a farmer from Louisburg at E820 or
All cattle including cows and weanlings will be sold on Saturdays from now on…
Bullocks and Heifers can be booked at 09:30am on Wednesday while Cows will
booked on Wednesday at 11:00am as usual and weanlings at 09:30am Thursday.,
