Balla Mart Report....
The sale was held in Balla with a limited number of buyers around the rings
maintaining the two metre social distancing rule and wearing face coverings.
There was THREE rings in operating selling just over 550 cattle. A good clearance
for the time of year and a great trade all round. There was strong demand for
heifers and cull cows with Northern Ireland buyers very active. Bullocks 300kg to
400kg averaged 2.54p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.36
p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged 2.28 p/kg. A farmer from
Coiltebo – Claremorris had a 700kg LMX that made E1,820.00.
There was just over 200 heifers and they were well improved on last week.
Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.54 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged
E2.38p/kg. While 500kg+ averaged 2.34p/kg. For example a really nice heifer
720kg char that made E1,840.00 sold by a farmer from Castlehill – Ballina.
There was a large sale of dry cows this Saturday with over a 100 lots on offer. A
785kg lim cow made E1,770.00 sold by a farmer from Killasser – Swinford. In the
springers there was a good mix of cattle the best being a 755kg ’16 lim cow with
its lim bull calf at foot that made E2,150.00. There was a small amount of bull
weanlings those upto 350kg averaged 2.47 p/kg, 350kg to 450kg averaged
2.34p/kg and 450kg plus were averaging 2.12p/kg…
Bullocks/Heifers will be booked at 09:30am on Wednesday 9th for next Saturdays
Sale and Cows will be booked at 11am.
Weanlings will be booked on Thursday 10th between 09:30am to 01:00pm for the
weanlings sale on Saturday..
