The sale was held in Balla for bullocks, heifers and cows a big sale with three
rings in operation selling 1000 cattle. There was no weanlings this week due to
the special sale being held on Tuesday evening the 27 th . There was a good
clearance of cattle with anything with weight 650kg to 750kg making good
money, Heavy bullocks were selling really well with northern buyers buying the
tops of them. Buyers were bidding from all over Ireland using the Farmers
Journal APK ‘MartBids’. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.75p/kg. Store
bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.55 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg +
averaged 2.43 p/kg the best for ages. A farmer from Knockmore – Manulla had
some fine store cattle and did very well the best a 350kg CHX that made E1,140.00
or 3.26 p/kg. And a farmer from Kilgarriff – Charlestown had some heavy bullocks
the best a 730kg @ E1,860.00 or 2.55 p/kg.
There was a good sale of heifers with just over 400 and they were a bit dearer
than last week. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.59 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to
500kg averaged E2.49p/kg. While 500kg+ averaged 2.37p/kg. There was great
prices paid for example a BBX 435kg @ E1,360.00 or 3.13p/kg sold by a farmer
from Mace - Claremorris and the a May ’19 BBX heifer sold by a Logcurragh –
Swinford farmer weighing 525kg @ E2,000.00 or 3.81p/kg.
There was a large sale of dry cows this Saturday. There was a 1015kg char that
made E2,170.00 sold by a farmer from Clogher – Westport farmer. In the
springers there was a good mix of cattle the best being a 675kg CHX @ E2,200.00 a
3 rd calf cow with its char bull calf at foot.
Booking as normal this week Bullocks/Heifers will be booked at 09:30am on
Wednesday 28 th with Cows booked at 11am.
Weanlings will be booked on Thursday 29th between 09:30am to 01:00pm for the
