Balla Mart Report....
The sale was held in Balla for bullocks, heifers and cows. Weanlings being sold on
Tuesday evening the 13 th due to the huge amount of cattle on Saturday. Most cattle
were actually a better trade than last week one of the best ever, A great clearance
with very little misses and buyers were commenting it was a
‘Exceptional/incredible’ trade. There was some great dry cows they sold seriously
well and were a ‘fright’ to buy. Buyers were bidding from all over Ireland using
the Farmers Journal APK ‘MartBids’. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.69p/kg.
Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.54 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg
+ averaged 2.38 p/kg. A farmer from Cloonfad – Ballyhaunis had some smashing
heavy cattle in it the best a 700kg CHX that made E1,720.00 or 2.46 p/kg.
There was a good sale of heifers with over 350 heifers and they met with some
great buying especially for breeding types. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.76
Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged E2.48p/kg. While 500kg+ averaged
2.46p/kg. There was great prices paid for example a Sim 425kg @ E1,290.00 or
3.04p/kg sold by a farmer from Cleggan – Galway and the best in the heavy heifers
a April ’19 char heifer sold by a Derryoul – Kilkelly farmer weighing 640kg @
E1,640.00….
There was a cracking trade in the dry cows this Saturday. There was a 940kg CHX
that made E2,040.00 sold by a farmer from Ballinagran – Balla farmer. In the
springers there was a good mix of cattle the best being a 755kg LMX @ E2,180.00
5* star with its heifer calf at foot.
Booking as normal this week Bullocks/Heifers will be booked at 09:30am on
Wednesday 14 th with Cows booked at 11am.
Weanlings will be booked on Thursday 15th between 09:30am to 01:00pm.
