Balla Mart Report....
The Saturday sale was held in Balla for bullocks, heifers and cows. Weanlings
being sold on Bank Holiday Monday a huge amount of cattle for one weekend.
Most cattle were actually a better trade than last week and buyers were
commenting it was a ‘Savage/Hot’ with store cattle especially not ‘simple’ to buy.
Buyers were bidding from all over Ireland using the Farmers Journal APK
‘MartBids’. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.72p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to
500kg averaged 2.45 p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged 2.32 p/kg.
A farmer from Shammer – Kilkelly had some smashing heavy cattle in it the best a
715kg LMX that made E1,730.00 or 2.42 p/kg and there was another 875kg Lim
that made higher price of E1,940.00.
There was a good sale of heifers with over 300 heifers and they met with some
great buying especially for breeding types. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.75
Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged E2.61p/kg. While 500kg+ averaged
2.36p/kg. There was great prices paid for example a lim 490kg @ E1,380.00 sold
by a farmer from Kilbride – Mayo Abbey and the best in the heavy heifers a LMX
heifer sold by a Knox – Tubbercurry farmer weighing 550kg @ E1,600.00….
There was a bit of a ‘poll’ on in the dry cows this Saturday. In the dry cows there
was a 960kg CHX that made E1,970.00 sold by a farmer from Parke – Castlebar
farmer. In the springers there was a good mix of cattle the best being a 760kg LMX
@ E2,400.00 a 2 nd calver and due April at AI Lim bull. There was no weanlings this
