The End of Month Continental sale was held in Balla with over 1040 cattle. Most
cattle are a good trade and lighter cattle especially are gone very dear. Buyers
bidding from all over Ireland using the Farmers Journal APK ‘MartBids’. Bullocks
300kg to 400kg averaged 2.76p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.43
p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged 2.34 p/kg. A farmer from Clogher
– Claremorris had some smashing heavy cattle in it. The best a 840kg Char that
made E1,930.00.
There was a good sale of heifers with over 400 heifers and they met with some
great buying especially for breeding heifers. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.77
Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged E2.62p/kg. While 500kg+ averaged
2.37p/kg. There was great prices paid for example a lim 480kg @ E1,470.00 and
the best a heavy AAX heifer sold by a Glenisland – Castlebar farmer weighing
755kg @ E1,660.00.
There was some good prices paid for cows this Saturday with just over 150 head
for sale. In the dry cows there was a 855kg CHX that made E1,920.00 sold by a
farmer from Cloonfad - Ballyhaunis. In the springers there was a good mix of
cattle the best being a 700kg LMX @ E2,400.00 a 1 st calf heifer with heifer calf at
foot. There was no weanlings this Saturday as they are been sold on bank holiday
Monday the 5 th of April. This is a day sale with intake at 7:30am viewing at 9:30am
and sale commences at 10:30am. There will be two rings in operation with a
DRAW for the starting number..Booking as normal this week Bullocks/Heifers
will be booked at 09:30am on Wednesday 31 th with Cows booked at
11am.Weanlings will be booked on Thursday 1 st between 09:30am to 01:00pm.
