Balla Mart Report....
The great trade of the last few weeks continued on Saturday and there is a good
positivity in the air. Numbers were well up with 900 lots on offer as was the
average price which was also well up on this time last week. There was three
rings again in operation to handle the increased numbers as never before has
there been as many cattle for the month of July. There was great interest in the
Farmers Journal APK ‘MartBids” and 38 buyers bidding online. Bullocks 300kg to
400kg averaged 2.42p/kg. Store bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 2.30
p/kg...While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged E2.17 p/kg. the best there a
800kg CHX @ E1,840.00 or 2.30 p/kg sold by a farmer from Ballylouban – Ballina
who had a pen of great cattle.
A fine sale of heifers with over 380 booked. It was a very good trade with lots of
online bids. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.41 Euro p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg
averaged E2.31p/kg with the weight. While 500kg+ averaging 2.16p/kg.. the best
a lim heifer for breeding weighing 580kg sold by a farmer from Foxboro -
Castlerea at E1,780.00 or 3.07 p/kg. There was just over 100 cows on offer this
week and they averaged 1.77 p/kg….the best a heavy char dry cow sold by a
farmer from Cloonfad – Ballyhaunis 820kg @ E1,730.00. There was an 6 year old
char cow with its heifer calf at foot that made E1,800.00 sold by a Ballyheane –
Castlebar farmer. In the bull weanlings there was a lot of light stock that averaged
from 2.04 to 2.48 p/kg…the best a LMX bull sold by a farmer from Pontoon Road -
Castlebar at E970 or 2.31p/kg.

Bullocks and Heifers can be booked at 09:30am on Wednesday while Cows will
booked on Wednesday at 11:00am and as usual and weanlings at 09:30am
Thursday.
