On Saturday the 7th of September the sale was held at Balla approx 700 on offer. The prices of last week were well mantained the cattle were selling away and prices and 'quality' were slightly up on last week. Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged 2.01p/kg. There was a 355kg LMX sold by a farmer from Tibohine - Castlerea at E850 at 2.39 p/kg. Some nice store bullocks 400kg to 500kg were averaging 2.07 p/kg...the best sold by a farmer from Hollyhill - Castlebar who had some smashing cattle for sale especially a 495kg LMX at E1225 or 2.47p/kg, While heavier bullocks 500kg + averaged E1.94 p/kg. A farmer from Belclare - Tuam saw his 810kg CHX bullock make E1.430.00 euro or 620 euro with the weight.
There was a 250 heifers on offer. Heifers up to 400 kg averaged 2.09 Euro p/kg. A heifer weighing 390kg sold by a Easkey - Sligo farmer at E935 or E2.40p/kg. Heifers 400kg to 500kg were making E2.06p/kg with the weight. A 490kg LMX heifer sold by a farmer from Ballyhaunis for E1.390.00 or 2.84 p/kg. While 500kg averaged 2.00p/kg.. the best a CHX 710kg heifer sold by a farmer from Liscarney - Westport that made E1,530.00 or 2.15 p/kg & E820 with the weight.
This week there was 90+ cows. The best dry cow was a BBX animal born March '12 sold by a Ballaghaderreen farmer that weighed 920kg and made E1,740.00 euro. While in the springers there was a small sale...a April 2007 cow & LMX Bull calf at foot sold by a Lanmore - Westport farmer at E1,600.00.
There was no sale of weanlings this week ...the weanling sale is on Tuesday the 10th of September...full report later.
