Nearly 9000 cattle stolen or reported missing across Northern Ireland over the last 3 years according to Ulster Unionist MLA Robin Swann.
Mr Swann says he is shocked by the figures from the Dept of Agriculture. These figures show 8.891 cattle reported missing or stolen since 2010.
Robin Swann, a member of Stomonts Agriculture Committee, said he was shocked by figures from the Department of Agriculture and indicated he believes they are being stolen to order.
Mr Swann said the figures showed that the problem appeared to be much worse along the border with the Republic of Ireland.
The figures show:
3070 reports of missing/stolen cattel in 2010/11
2807 in 2011/12 and
3014 in 2012/13
Last month police warned farmers both sides of the border following the theft of 14 bullocks from a field near Dungannon , valued ato over 22k sterling.
Police on both sides of the border are visiting livestock marts as part of a plan to tackle rural crime and to involve all parties in making it harder for thieves to steal from farms.
