The US has effectively been closed off for Irish Beef since the BSE scare in 1997. The US Dept of Agriculture have announced a review of their procedures.Whilst nothing is expected immediately this augers well for Irish Beef export in the future.
Simon Coveney, Minister for Agriculture welcomed the publication of the bill to bring trade rules for beef in line with �accepted international scientific norms�.
The bill proposes that the U.S. Department of Agriculture would adopt the same BSE risk criteria for categorising countries as the world organisation for animal health.
