Smartprobe meter features in Keenan Innovation Award
The Richard Keenan Innovation Award was presented recently by Keenan UK Director, Noel Keenan at The Guild of Agricultural Journalists Harvest Lunch, which was held in the magnificent surroundings of Stationer’s Hall in London, following a Harvest Festival service in St Bride’s Church in Fleet Street.

This award, which was established last year in memory of Richard Keenan, the founder of Richard Keenan & Co. Ltd. is presented to the Guild member who submits the best entry on the topic of innovation, and how it is helping the farming industry to meet current challenges.

Sponsor, Gerard Keenan points out that the award recognises the vital role that journalists have in communicating the innovative culture that is crucial for the future of the industry.
All of the entries were of an extremely high standard, making the judge’s job very difficult, prompting much discussion and debate about the eventual outcome.

Judged by a panel comprising Gerard Keenan, last year’s winner freelance journalist Nancy Nicholson, Aberdeen Press and Journal Business and Agricultural Editor Joe Watson, and PR Consultant Doreen Forsyth, the winning entry was praised by all four judges.

Written by freelance journalist Peter Hill, the article not only described the features and benefits of Michael Summer’s Smartprobe Grain Moisture Meter, but also gave an insight into the process of turning an innovative idea into a commercial produce.

Runner up was Farmer’s Weekly James Andrews, whose article on Telematics was an excellent story which explained in simple terms how this complex technology works.
At the presentation ceremony, Noel Keenan commented -My father fostered the company’s reputation for delivering innovation and was constantly looking to bring new solutions to customers. He did this by actively encouraging creativity and new ideas.

“It is, therefore, very fitting to celebrate journalism that highlights how innovation is helping the farming industry to meet any challenges it faces.”
