Farm Stats report more female farmers

The CSO report shows that over 10 years- Fall in the number of farms of -1.2 percent. Now 139,860 farms.
- Incerase in number working on farms by 14,068 ( 5.5. per cent), now 272,016.
- average age of farmers have increased from 51 to 54
- 51.4 percent of farmers are 58 years old or over
- farms owned by women increased to 12.4 percent from 10.7 percent.
- females make up over a quarter of the farming workforce.
- 90 per cent of all farm work is done by the farm family, just 6 percent is provided by regular non family members with casual labour accounting for 3.6 per cent.
