Dairy Farmers 16M Superlevy Fine Milk Producers in Ireland are facing fines of up to 16 million euros for exceeding their annual production quotas. This represents just one percent of total quota. This is at a time when the Irish Dairy Industry is investing heavily in expansion ahead of the the EU planned end of the quota system.
Irish farmers exceeded their EU production quota by 60,000 tonnes, which has triggered a superlevy fine of �16m.
Other countries that broke the levy include Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Cyprus and Luxembourg - all of whom broke their production quotas.
At the same time , the total EU milk production was 4.7% below its global production volume
