Brexit worries for Irish Dairy Sector

Dairy Exports an ongoing worry for Irish Farmers.

The last few years have actively encouraged expansion of dairy farms and with cows having to be milked every day – Brexit is now a particular worry for Irish Dairy Farmers.
Currency fluctuations are making sterling great for UK exports but puts huge pressure Irish companies selling into the UK market.
This is like going through a storm and Irish Farmers are wondering when this storm might settle – so they can get back into profit.
The Eurpoean Milk Board General Director has said that removing quotes has been quite a challenge but that there are bigger issues to come.
“64 million people live in the UK, and it is a net importer of Dairy Products. Brexit will have an impact on Dairy Farming. Particularly neighbouring countries such as Ireland are highly dependent on the British Market”– says European Milk Board General DirectorSilvia Däberitz. - "The EMB stresses the importance of finding a reasonable, fair and balanced solution. Both UK and EU farmers as well as UK and EU citizens would benefit from an agreement which would not lead to significant shifts in trade of dairy products between the UK and the EU."
