Bother to deliver 70 heifers to Africa In celebration of Bthars 20th Anniversary, Neven Maguire and the Irish Farmers Journal are proud to be supporting an airlift of 70 in-calf friesian heifers to 70 needy families in Africa. But they need your help to make it happen!

As a Bthar patron, Neven was keen to do something that would really make a difference to struggling families in Africa. Last April, I was lucky enough to visit Bthars projects in Uganda and I was truly touched by the people that I met there. I will never forget the smiles of happiness I witnessed there and it was all thanks to the gift of an Irish dairy cow they received from Bthar. When I came back I wanted to help more families and I approached the Irish Farmers Journal to get behind the project and now Im thrilled to see that its really taking off!

Neven and the Irish Farmers Journal are looking for donations of dairy heifers and contributions from individuals and community groups towards the cost of the airfare and placing the animal with their new family. Each heifer will transform the life of a struggling family. Through Bthars system to pass on the gift, the first female born to the heifer will be donated to another struggling family, so the cycle of giving starts again.

David Moloney, Bthars Chief Executive explained why this airlift is so important.

Bthars fortunes have changed over the last number of years and unfortunately we have been struggling to meet our airlift quotas, so the commitment by Neven Maguire, the Irish Farmers Journal, and their readers, to send a dedicated airlift of 70 heifers is heaven sent. We have families waiting for Irish dairy heifers, who have been preparing to receive them for months. An Irish dairy cow can produce up to 20 times more milk than a native African cow, so the animal provides food and income for the families.

According to David Leydon, Circulation Sales & Marketing Manager for the Irish Farmers Journal, This is a great opportunity for us to work with our readers who have been incredibly generous to Bthar over the past 20 years. Many farmers have donated a range of farm animals to Bthar and we know that they have made a significant difference to many African families.

As a thank you to the Irish Farmers Journal heifer donors and those providing the airfare, Neven Maguire will open up his restaurant, MacNean House, exclusively for donors to this dedicated airlift. To be in with a chance to win one of 30 tables for two at MacNean House with overnight accommodation, all you have to do is to make a donation supporting this airlift using the coupon appearing in the Irish Farmers Journal on 4th, 11th & 18th August, and return it to Bthar.

Its that simple! Your help will help the airlift take off!
