Raw Milk - Ban it or a commercial option?

Raw Milk - Ban it or a commercial option?

The Irish government intends to ban the sale of raw milk before the end of 2011.Currently farmers selling their raw milk to co-ops get around 35c per litre. These farmers could sell their raw milk direct to the public at a retail price of approximately €1.50-€2 per litre. The average price of a litre of pasteurised, homogenised, commercially-processed milk in supermarkets ranges from €1.20 to €1.60. more http://url.ie/cz5g

I sell all our milk from the farm by the gallon. The average price here in the US hovered around 17.00 per hundred weight and I am getting 100.00 per hundred from the farm. I have about 30 families waiting for me to buy more cows. Seeing the bottom line with the prices I am getting gives me even more respect for dairy farmers trying to make it through conventional channels.
Our state just confiscated raw milk from a farmer and the state attorneys decided that the state had no right to interfere with the relationship between two parties. It's always a question in my mind if some law will change but until then I really have to turn a profit from my milk to grow the farm. It will be interesting to see what happens in Ireland.
