Best Cattle Ever seen - Emerald Expo

Posted on: 12/07/2012

The best cattle he had ever seen at any American or European dairy show, was the fulsome tribute paid by Canadian Donald Dubois after he judged last week’s Emerald Expo 2012 show in Kilkenny.

And a Co Limerick herd which has been winning the top prizes since the 1990s was the star performer of the 49 herds represented, from Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Offaly, Louth, Meath, Tipperary, Wexford, and Wicklow.

Mr Dubois said the show had the finest Best Three Females Owned by Exhibitor section he had seen — and that was just one of the rosettes claimed by Patrick and Derrick Frawley’s Croagh herd, from Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

They also showed the Alltech senior cow champion, Ridgefield Dunee Portea, which also took the best udder of the show award. Croagh Susie Mist 46, also owned by the Frawleys, won the four-year-old cow in milk section and was the IHFA best exhibitor bred champion.

Yet another Frawley cow, Croagh Integrity Lady, won the Dairymaster production class.

Holstein, Friesian, Jersey and Shorthorn cattle featured in the show, chasing a prize fund of €25,000.
